Information regarding cats mixing in communal areas

As a result of concern by the local council licensing authority on our policy to allow our cats to mix and socialize in communal areas the Veterinary Surgeon team at the City of London have been good enough to furnish us with the following information:

‘Your premises already have in place several measures to prevent the spreading of diseases including update vaccination certificates for all the boarded cats. All cats must be micro-chipped for the purpose of identification once they have been in the communal areas.
However we feel it is important that the owners that want to board their cats using the communal facilities, as part of their cats daily exercise routine are made aware that there are disease risks for which there are no vaccinations available: for example FIV and FIP and some bacterial infection for which vaccination is not always effective such as Chlamydia and those diseases are spread mainly by direct contact and effect many cat colonies.

Cats can become stressed when moved to a different environment and this could contribute to lower their immune-response, therefore be more susceptible to any disease.
We would also state that due to the fact the communal space is contained there could be more chance of confrontational situation from which some cats could find difficulty to withdraw, therefore during the night when the communal area is not monitored it would be preferable if the cats could be locked in.

If you want the communal areas to remain then the owner’s disclaimer must be obtained to ensure that you the owner understand all the facts.’

My staff and I have given great consideration to the above information and agree with the comments; however we only want what’s best for our resident boarders.

We do however believe that you as the cat owner have the right to choose what suits your cat the best so after taking into consideration of all the above information  you can choose if you want your cat to socialize or to be locked in its pen at all times.

We therefore now ask you to sign the booking card stating which option you wish your cat to reside under.

Should you still be unsure please talk to a member of staff who will try to answer any questions you may have.
